dc.description.abstract | The study entitled, “NEEDS ANALYSIS ON THE WRITING SKILLS OF
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: BASIS FOR AN INSTRUCTIONAL
MATERIAL FOR READING AND WRITING SKILLS" used the descriptive
quantitative design as it sought to determine the needs of Senior High School
students in writing in terms of the competencies in Senior High School (SHS)
Curriculum and writing strategies. The respondents of this study were the 223
Senior High School students who are officially enrolled in UM Peñaplata
College and the 9 SHS teachers currently teaching subjects related to reading
and writing in the same school. Results show that Grammar and Syntax,
Coherence, Use of appropriate language for a specific discipline, Mechanics
and Use, cite, and document sources are the needs of the Senior High School
students in terms of the competencies in the SHS curriculum. In terms of the
writing strategies, the students' needs include writing multiple drafts,
discussing writing with the writing center or tutor, consulting reference books
or websites, and discussing writing with a teacher.
Based on the result, the researchers recommend that teachers emphasize
teaching Grammar and Syntax, Coherence, Use of appropriate language for a
specific discipline, Mechanics, and Use, cite, and document sources. In terms
of writing strategies, the researchers recommend that teachers allow students
to write multiple drafts and discuss their writing with a writing center or tutor.
Teachers should also encourage students to consult reference books or
websites and hold a one-on-one meeting with students to discuss their papers,
provide feedback, and point out and correct students' mistakes to be aware of
their errors and what they can do to improve their mistakes writing skills. | en_US |
