Perceptions of elementary teachers towards the reading aloud strategy

This descriptive study describes the perceptions of elementary teachers on reading aloud
strategy. The researchers made use of the Random Sampling Method. The participants of
this research were one hundred elementary teachers wherein sixty of them were from
Matina Elementary School and the rest were from S.I.R Elementary School. Using the
statistical tool called Chi-square test, the results revealed that more female elementary
teachers, who most of them had bachelor degrees and taught in grade levels five to six,
employed the said strategy than the male ones. It also showed that they employed the
strategy on account of the need to improve the listening skills of the students. In addition,
the data results appeared that the specific teachers used reading aloud to give students
enjoyment and some used it to read texts to their students that may not read otherwise.
Moreover, the results showed that there were no significant difference in the elementary
teachers’ perception of the reading aloud strategy in terms of their gender, educational
degree, and grade level handled.
