The purpose of this quantitative study was to determine the attitude of grade 8
students in public high school towards studying History and Government and to
determine if there is a significant difference in the attitude towards studying the
subject when analyzed in terms of gender. The study was a descriptive survey and the
researchers also employed a purposive sampling. 100 grade eight (8) students
consisted of 50 males and 50 females were surveyed. The data was collected using
questionnaires. The obtained data were also analyzed systematically using descriptive
statistics and was presented using tables. The overall mean equivalent for the attitude
of students towards studying the subject is high (3.65). This revealed that the attitude
of students towards studying history and government is favorable. The result
interpretation for the significance difference of the attitude when analyzed by gender
is 1.63 for the t-value, this indicates that it is greater than the significant level of .05
and .107 for the p-value in which it indicates that it is greater than the significant level
of .05 (1.63 and .017>.05). This implies that the attitude of grade 8 students when
analyzed by gender is less significantly different. This study confirmed that the
attitude of grade 8 students towards studying history and government is favorable
mainly due to the fact that they liked and they have this interest to study the said
subject. Furthermore, the attitude of grade 8 students towards studying the subject
when analyzed by gender is less significantly different mainly due to the fact that both
genders are effectively engaging themselves in the learning process.
