This study strived to determine the causes of the student’s English-speaking deficiency among the grade 11 learners of Samal SHS. In this case study, utilizing the purposive sampling technique in selecting the five participants in each method, researchers underwent in-depth interviews and focused-group discussions in gathering the data. The results reveal that anxiety, lack of motivation, lack of confidence, and less exposure to the English language are the root causes of the students’ deficiency in speaking English. Furthermore, participants also indicated the importance of determining the causes of their English-speaking deficiency for their self-development and enhancement in speaking the English language. Nonetheless, participants were able to determine the importance of knowing the underlying causes of this deficiency. They shared their insights about overcoming psychological struggles and exposing oneself to the English language to speak English efficiently.
