Practices of elementary school canteen: A framework for social responsibility development

Abstract
This study explored the current practices of school canteen in terms of food habits, food waste and environmental sustainable practices at Rizal Elementary School. Purposive sampling was used to identify the participants of the study, which included the school head, canteen coordinator, and three canteen staff as participants. This study utilized a qualitative research design specifically phenomenological approach, and validated interview guide questionnaire. The finding revealed various practices of school canteen which include, quality and food safety assurance, food variation and food basket distribution strategy. Moreover, canteen practices that reflects social responsibility includes adherence to legal standardization, waste management system and clean reputation. A framework for recommendations that offer practical guidelines for enhancing social responsibility development in school canteens to create a health promotion environment and foster wellness sustainability among schools is the output of this study.
