Abstract
The purpose of this qualitative-case study approach was to analyze the experiences and coping mechanism of straight men in a same-sex relationship. Using purposive sampling, the participants of this inquiry was three straight men from Davao Region, Philippines. Triangulation was addressed through having detailed description of the methodology, well-recorded in-depth interview and non-verbal information, inquiry audit, and member checking. After a thorough thematic and analysis, eight major themes were generated from the psychological factors that straight men from experience in a same-sex relationship, such as peer influence, revelation of true identity, expression of love and happiness, companionship, a need to be understand and accepted, being prompted with the situation, being treated well, and genuine love. On coping and management styles there were six major themes associated such as asking advice from others, prayer, being loyal, ignore what other say, avoidance of conflict and trust one another. On the Insights of straight men gained in their same-sex relationship there were six major themes generated such as expression of genuine love, fight for love, be surrounded with people who understand the situation, respect one another, help each other, ignoring prejudice, and have faith and trust your partner.
