Food labeling knowledge of Tagum City: an assessment

This study was conducted to determine the level of Food Labelling Knowledge of Tagum City. This review examined how food labeling affects the food preference of consumers. The survey questionnaire has been utilized as an instrument to gather data from 960 respondents through 5 barangays in Tagum City. Mean is the statistical tool used to determine the food labeling knowledge of Tagum City.
The result showed that Food Labelling Knowledge is moderate among all indicators; therefore, researchers conclude that consumers in Tagum City didn't practice checking the food labeling. Moreover, the educational background and marital status also do not impact consumers' preferences on scanning the food labeling.
To address this problem, the researchers highly recommend to the consumers that department sectors of food and drug administration, food processing sector, and food manufacturing sector should collaborate effort to conduct seminars, webinars and create a video program presenting the use of food labeling in food items by the users of social media it will help to spread information to prevent problems that may arise due to the lack of knowledge and awareness on food labels. Consumers should be careful in choosing food items to avoid unnecessary health problems upon buying them.
