Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the level of academic stress among newly hired language teachers at a private university in Davao City. This study used quantitative, descriptive research design and used the convenience sampling in determining the number of respondents. There are only 17 newly hired language teachers whose age ranges from 20 to 50 and currently teaching in the private university. In this study, the findings revealed that they find teaching as a stressful profession. Specifically, teachers reported that they felt stressed because of unfair treatment at work, that complying to the school rules and policies are stressful and that the most common contributors of their stress are the paper works and major causes of their stress come from their immediate environment and people around them. Keywords: academic stress, newly hired, teachers, language
