Metro Davao children's hospital : a salutogenic architectural approach in promoting comfort towards hospital environment
Abstract
Children described as the most vulnerable population of the society. The experience of
children in hospital is a stressful incident. The pain and sufferance from diseases and the
medication activity provoking a tremendous amount of stress. In cases of children with serious
diseases that needs to stay in hospital frequently leads them to feel discomfort and emotionally
disturbed. (Rokach, 2016). The entire experience of the environment in hospitals has influence on
the perception of the patient and the family in quality care. The hospital environment is important
in the management of the mental and emotional state of the patient. (Succui, Daina, Cheriji, &
Pallag, 2010). As the study reveals that the role of architecture in designing a healthcare institution
for children has a part to enhance the health of the children. As a recommended healthcare setting
offers a comfortable environment for the healing and recovery of the patient. The proposed
Children’s Hospital in Davao City will help to support the healthcare practices and quality care for
children. The application of Salutogenic Architecture will help to lessen the stress experience by
the patient and help in designing the physical environment of the hospital as a response in
promoting health to achieve a comfortable environment.
