dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this phenomenological undertaking is to describe and analyze the lived experiences of school children in Brgy. 76-A Bucana, Davao City, Philippines towards television viewing. In-depth Interview (IDI) and Focus Group Discussion were employed in collecting data. Findings revealed that participants experienced television programs as a source of useful information, an opportunity for family bonding and interaction, recreation and able to relate well to what others feel and they learn positive values. Participants value television programs since it is a connection between their world and the world outside, it becomes an instrument for them to distinguish reality from fantasy, a tool in shaping concepts and predilections and a mechanism in distinguishing right and wrong. Out from the generated results, it can be learned that television offers education exposure, imparts valuable life lessons, can positively influence and teaches them to be discriminating. Also, the participants are aware that the key in television viewing is moderation and parental supervision.
