Emotional self-efficacy and sexual behavior of people living with HIV/AIDS

Abstract

The study was conducted to determine which domain of emotional self-efficacy best influences the sexual behavior of people living with HIV/AIDS in Davao City. The current study used non-experimental quantitative research design employing descriptive-correlational method. Survey questionnaires were utilized in the gathering of data from 259 clients in Reproductive Health and Wellness Center (RHWC) and City Health Office Treatment Hub who are undergoing medical care for Antiretroviral Treatment. The respondents were obtained through purposive sampling with mean, Pearson, and regression analysis as the statistical tools. Findings disclosed that the overall result for emotional self-efficacy of people living with HIV/AIDS was high but their sexual behavior was low. Moreover, emotional self-efficacy had no significant relationship with sexual behavior. The domain of emotional self-efficacy that best influenced sexual behavior is dealing with emotions in others, while the rest of the indicators need the support of other indicators to influence sexual behavior.
