This study aims to find out whether problem solving approach can improve the students perception towards Mathematics. This study was conducted in order to make the students appreciate the importance of studying Mathematics. The problem being addressed by this study was based on the GAP Analysis conducted by the researchers in one of the biggest schools in Davao City. Based on the interview and the survey, students do not see the essence why they need to learn Mathematics, especially higher topics involving x and y when it cannot be applied in their lives. The problem stated above prompted the researchers to use problem solving strategy in order to aid the problem. This study was conducted from August to September 2016 in one of the biggest universities in Davao City. Ten respondents, who do not find learning Mathematics as important, were chosen based on the Modified Fennema-Sherman Attitude Scale survey. Findings in the study draw a conclusion that the problem solving approach helped in improving the perception of the students towards mathematics. However, the researchers acknowledged the lapses and the limitations of the research, hence, it needs further improvements. Key Words: Problem Solving Approach, Essence of Mathematicsen_US
