| dc.description.abstract | The present study deals with the adaptation of e-learning as one of the
strategies to speed-up the education and training system in the University of
Mindanao specifically for the IT and CS. The e-learning module in the
CS120L or the Logic Formulation and Introduction to programming course was
selected as the basis for assessing the effectiveness of e-learning since most of
the students were having difficulty with this subject. The study determined the
Academic Achievement of CS120L students who were using e-Learning
Module (Experimental Group) and those who were not using it (Control
Group). Students were assessed based on administration of Pre-test and Post test questionnaires. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group was
used in determining the effectiveness of the content of the e-learning module in
teaching CS120L course to the BS in Information Technology and BS in
Computer Science students in the University of Mindanao as basis for
enhancement of e-learning program. The significant improvement of the
academic achievement of CS120L was tested using the T-Test while Mean was
utilized to obtain the responses of the students on the level of satisfaction in
using the e-learning module. The findings of this study revealed that the use of
e-learning serves as the edge to boost and deepen students’ potential in
understanding concepts in computer programming especially in problem solving. The null hypothesis that there is no significant improvement on the
academic achievement of CS120L (with logic formulation and programming
topics) students based on the administration of Pretest and Posttest when taught
using the e-learning module and without using it was tested at 0.05 level of
significance. It was found out that the students were satisfied with the course
content and assessment or the topics provided in the e-learning module. The
lecturers, laboratory activities and assessment helped students enhance their
understanding in programming. Another factor that influenced students’
interest in programming was the feature wherein video, graphical or audio
presentations were used as learning materials. Finally, the discussion feature
where students able to create groups or collaborate with their classmates
through joining chat rooms was considered as another factor in influencing the
interest of students in programming.
