Abstract
The purpose of this study is to understand the dual role of the single mothers as a parent and as a student who are currently studying in a private university. The participants of this study included five college single mother students between the ages of 25 and 30 with different specialization. The theoretical framework guiding this study is Role Conflict Theory. This framework provides a connection that explains the dual role experiences of the single mothers pursuing a college degree, as well as identifies possible solutions that address the issues involved in the pursuit of a college degree for these parents. Data collection included the participants’ demographic profile, and one-on-one interview. Six themes emerged from the coded data including struggles and sacrifices, organizing childcare, positivity and spiritual guidance, support from the family, transcending difficult times through being resilient, and life is a blessing. The result of this study were intended for higher education faculty and administrators to design a program that will support and help single mother students, events like holding a forum and affairs for the single mother students with their children.
