dc.description.abstractThis study was conducted to investigate difficulties encountered by Secondary English Major students in analyzing literary pieces. The researchers employed qualitative research method and an interview protocol was used as the data collection instrument. The research informants were 5 (five) 3rd year Secondary English Major students. Findings revealed that theory application and choice of words were the major difficulties encounter by the informants in literary analysis. Moreover, literary theories are seen as lens of critiquing a text and also as a source of information to extract the ideas and submerged meaning of a particular literary piece. In connection with these findings, it was found out that they really had encountered difficulties in literary analysis as they were given a literary piece entitled “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost as a test for themen_US
