This study entitled “The Struggles and Strategies of Special Education Teachers
in Island Garden City of Samal” was conducted done to understand what are The
Struggles and Strategies of Special Education Teacher. A qualitative research
design was used in this study. A formal interview was done to gather the
necessary data. These were gathered from two teachers in Angel Villarica
Central School and two teachers in Peñaplata Elementary School. They were
asked thoroughly about their struggles and strategies with the aid of validated
questionnaires. Data were analyzed and interpreted using thematic coding. The
researchers found common answers of special education teachers. These were
challenges in planning, instructions, and monitoring the progress of students. In
the area of planning, catering to the individual needs of the learners was their
common struggles, while in the area of instruction the challenging part for them
was utilizing existing materials, and in the area of monitoring the progress of
students, the challenging part for them was no proper involvement of parents.
Furthermore, the researchers came to know the strategies they employed for a
child with disability. In special education, teachers’ help their students develop
the basic skills they needed, they also used formative and summative
assessments, and they also modified their materials according to the needs of
their learners
