THE STRUGGLES AND DIFFICULTIES ENCOUNTERED BY THE TEACHERS IN TEACHING USING MOTHER TONGUE BASED INSTRUCTION
Abstract
This study was entitled, “THE STRUGGLES AND DIFFICULTIES
ENCOUNTERED BY THE TEACHERS IN TEACHING USING MOTHER
TONGUE BASED INSTRUCTIONS”. The aim of this study was to identify
what the common difficulties are dealt by the teachers in teaching using Mother
Tongue Based Instructions. This also determined the strategies used by the
educators in teaching a subject using Mother Tongue as their standard of
instructions. Moreover, this also determined the expectations of the teachers in
the implementation of the MTB-MLE in the K-12 Curriculum. The participants
of this study are teachers from the schools of Tagdaliao, Licup and San Jose,
teaching from Grade 1 to Grade 3. The researcher found out that there are only
several times teachers consider Mother Tongue as a problem for the means of
instruction in the classroom. This indicates that there are terminologies that are
not familiar to the teacher that makes it difficult for them to teach. Furthermore,
there is one best strategy that most of the teachers engaged in the teaching and
learning method specifically in teaching Mother Tongue subject, which is
bridging. Moreover, they have expected that the application of the MTB-MLE
in the new curriculum in the Education program will be smooth and relevant to
the teachers as well as to the students.
