This study aims to present the value of ancestral houses in Davao City in terms
of ancestral house as an attraction, government support in terms of promotion,
ancestral houses to be included in the itineraries, catching tourist’s attention,
improving the tourism sector, the problems encountered, best tactics to handle
the problem and government assistance in terms of the perspective of the
heritage tourism experts and tourism academes in order to determine the
common answers and come up with a reliable results. Based on the General
Thematic Analysis, result shows that each ancestral house has a significant
reason why it was built. The reason behind each houses are from its
architectural design, the lineage of the family who lives there before, historic
events in the house are some of the common factors for the viability of an
ancestral house to be an attraction and in order to utilize it as a tourist spot, it
must be preserved and the dilapidated parts of the historical houses must be
restored. Government and other preservation sectors has this program that
helps the owners in preserving and restoring their house. One problem occur
and that is some owners of ancestral house didn’t coordinate because they are
afraid they might lose their full authority for their ancestral house that is why
there are still some ancestral houses that are just left and neglected by their
owners. The researchers conclude it needs more attention for the government
and other tourism sectors to give importance in terms of promotion, lack of
funds and loosing of rights in order to the heritage tourism of Davao will
upsurge.
