This study focused on determining the social intelligence of hospitality
students of the University of Mindanao using the descriptive survey research
design choosing 200 hospitality students from the University of Mindanao.
Frequency Count, Percentage, Mean, t-test and ANOVA. The findings of the
study were as follows: Majority of the respondents were within the age bracket
18 and below, female students, 2nd year hospitality students and HRM
students; the level of social intelligence of hospitality students of the University
of Mindanao was high; and, there is no significant difference on the level of
social intelligence of hospitality students of University of Mindanao when
analyzed by age, sex, year level and course. The researchers recommended
that seminars and workshops concerning social intelligence should be
sponsored by the administrators of the University of Mindanao and emphasized
interaction style considering that the hospitality students still have some room
for improvement. Also, social intelligence should be emphasized in the
curriculum of the College of Hospitality Education to augment the social
intelligence of the students in some aspects, particularly in discerning the real
motive of people as well as what they like and dislike; most especially in the
area of interaction style; and, interaction style should be emphasized in the
classroom instruction of the hospitality students considering that hospitality
program is all about interaction with people.
