dc.description.abstract | This study aimed to discover, identify, and understand the phonological landscape of Maguindanaon language, specifically the Davao variety. Furthermore, it aimed to provide an avenue for the identification of the phonological components of the Maguindanaon language. This study employed qualitative research approach specifically linguistic typology. The results of the study revealed that certain places of articulation in consonants such as labiodental, interdental, and glottal are not present in this language. Certain vowels in IPA transcriptions such as, /e/, /ae/, /3-/, /e/, /-/, and /o/ are not present as well. Researchers also found that diphthongs in the English language can be found in any position in the word. However, diphthongs in the Maguindanaon language are only found in the latter part of the word. Coarticulation processes such as assimilation and elision are also observed in the study. As for the suprasegmental features, languages differ in meaning depending on the stress put within the words. These results imply that the Maguindanaoan language in Davao exhibit unique characteristics. This study proves that a linguistic inquiry is also a research of people and culture. | en_US |
