dc.description.abstractThis qualitative multiple-case study envisioned comprehending cases of students' glossophobic experiences at the identified public high schools in island Garden City of Samal. Purposive sampling was used to identify the four Grade 12 senior high school students under HUMSS strand were the cases in this study who underwent in-depth interviews (IDI). Results showed emerging factors causing glossophobia which are retrieval of traumatic experiences, negative self-perception, teachers' expectations, classmates' reactions, lack of comprehension, English language anxiety and parents' expectations. Meanwhile, participants' coping mechanisms with glossophobia include seeking support, reading, experiential learning, watching public speaking, socializing, self-talk, self-encouragement, relaxation, breathing exercises, and finding comfort in familiarity. Lessons learned by participants from their experiences are speaking strategies, taking criticism constructively, self-efficacy, supportive learning environment, greatness of faith, students' engagement, and self-reflection. Results implied for students to overcome glossophobia, they must be exposed into certain activities. Also, teachers' and parents' vital role is to promote a positive and supportive learning environment. Overall, the researchers learned that students need to be engaged in a positive and supportive learning environment to develop their confidence and courage in speaking.en_US
