Interpreting women's body language: diverse perspectives in the eyes of men

Abstract

Body language is an important part of contact and relationships with one another in modern times. It is therefore very important to management or leadership and to all areas of work and business where contact can be seen and experienced between individuals in the body language of people. In particular, a woman who is more sensitive than men nowadays is also important (Chapman, 2020). This study used a descriptive qualitative approach. According to Crossman (2017), qualitative research is a type of social science research that collects and works with non-numerical data and seeks to interpret meaning from these data that help us understand social life through the study of targeted populations or places. Thus, this study was conducted on 15 randomly selected men, eight men undergone in-depth interviews and seven in focused group discussion. The study was conducted online due to pandemic, the informants were randomly students studying in Tagum City. In addition, questions were asked to the informants on how they interpret women’s body language. The result suggest that some participants find women’s body language very helpful, and at the same time quite irritating. Finally, essential themes were generated namely: facial expressions, hand gestures, body movements and posture, expression of oneself, confusing, alluring and deceiving, better understanding, awareness of each other and certainty of the message.
