dc.description.abstract | Tack coat has been widely used as an adhesive material due to its vital
component in the integrity of pavements and as it is very inexpensive. However, the
use of tack coat as a conventional binding agent is limited to pavement only. The work
presented in this study explores the usage of tack coat as an admixture for concrete
mixture and understands the effect by determining its physical properties and chemical
components, such as Morphology by Scanning Electron Microscopy, Elemental
Analysis using Energy Dispersive X-ray, and Compressive strength. The study adheres
to American Standards and Testing Materials 192, C39, and C1723 standards in
accumulating relevant results. Energy Dispersive X-ray testing is performed to consider
the use of a substantial concrete mixture based on the impact of deposition on the
biomaterial surface. Despite the parameters of the composition of the tack coat, it can
be used as a hardening mixture and mitigate the micro-cracking of concrete. The
concrete samples made with 10% and 20% tack coat concrete mixture reached the
maximum compressive strength exceeding 94% of the standard strength, and for 25%
tack coat concrete mixture increased by approximately 7% with 24 MPa at 21 days of
curing.
