dc.description.abstract | The research paper focused on the gap that was observed between the socio
economic factors and perception of households in the coastal areas of Davao City,
specifically in Barangay Bucana, Barangay Matina Aplaya, and Barangay 23-C
Poblacion. The researchers examined if there is a correlation between the
independent variables and dependent variables. Hence, the researchers
individually determined the indicators of each variable. The quantitative research
particularly employs the type of probability sampling called Random Sampling
Method which was used to modify the 5-likert scale questionnaire to measure the
variables being studied. A total of 398 respondents were surveyed from these
barangays. The researchers used mean, standard deviation, and Pearson r
correlation as statistical tools to analyze the gathered data. The results have shown
that the respondents often perceive the socio-demographic profile of male
respondents. On the other hand, it was indicated that the level of perception among
respondents relating to dependency on marine life resources has a mean of 3.96
while the standard deviation is 0.52. Moreover, in terms of the respondents’ level of
awareness in water contamination, the mean has 3.94 while the SD has 0.54. The
researchers recommended ways and strategies on how to provide efficient
solutions to the indicators which have the lowest mean scores.
