Illegal fishing refers to the fishing practices that are not allowed by the laws and it affects the marine resources. Illegal fishing is one of the concerning issues in Davao City even though a fisheries law is already imposed. The main objective of this study is to determine the factors associated with illegal fishing in Davao City and to create a prevention program for illegal fishing in Davao City. Specifically, it aims to answer the following objectives: first, to assess the sociodemographic profile of every respondent in terms of Age, Gender, and Educational Attainment. second, to ascertain the level of factors associated with illegal fishing. And lastly, to determine the significant differences among age, gender, and educational attainment in terms of factors associated with illegal fishing. The study utilized simple random sampling and there are 400 respondents from the three Barangays that are near coastal areas. The findings of the study revealed that the widespread illegal fishing activities in Davao City residents who live near coastal areas were influenced by these factors and these are resource depletion, limited livelihood options, global market demand, and weak enforcement and penalties. The researchers suggested that the local government, especially BFAR, should have an alternative income source for anglers to reduce their dependency on fishing. They also suggest that the Davao City Local Government must spread awareness about the negative effects of illegal fishing on the environment and economy, to promote public engagement through BFAR programs. In addition, criminology students should be educated more about environmental crimes and the importance of laws concerning illegal fishingen_US
