This research paper was conducted to determine the perception of
Criminology students on the reimposition of death penalty. There were a
total of two hundred (200) randomly selected BS Criminology students as
respondents in this study. The researchers employed descriptive survey
method, and a self-made survey questionnaire was used as the data
collection instrument. The instrument used in the study was validated by
the research adviser and three (3) validators from the faculty of College
Criminal Justice Education. The statistical tools that were used by the
respondents were Frequency Percentage and Average Weighted Score
(Mean) and Descriptive Rating was used to analyze the research result
and ANOVA and T-test were used by the statistician to analyze the
hypothesis. The findings of this study revealed that in terms of
demographic profiles of the respondents revealed that majority of
respondents’ age ranges from 16-19 years old. Similarly, there are more
male respondents than female and majority are second year level. In terms
of the level of perception on the reimposition of death penalty among
Criminology students of the University of Mindanao, there is a high level of
perceptions in terms of retribution (4.21), deterrence (4.27) and prevention
of reoffending (4.32). Moreover, in terms of significant difference in the
level of perception on the reimposition of death penalty among Criminology
students of the University of Mindanao when analyzed by profile, there is a
manifestation of age-based and year-level based differences of the
perception of the respondents.
