This scientific paper reports the discovery and formal description of a new longhorn beetle species named Cleptometopus negrosensis sp. nov. from Negros Island. The species was collected at around 900 meters elevation in Mount Kanlaon Natural Park. The authors explain that Negros Island is an important biodiversity hotspot but faces serious environmental threats such as deforestation and habitat loss. The discovery highlights the island’s still-undocumented insect diversity. The newly described beetle belongs to the genus Cleptometopus, a group of longhorn beetles found in the Oriental region. Before this study, only three species of this genus were known from the Philippines.en_US
